Comparing Q and NME Contents Pages

These are two examples of contents pages from existing magazines, one from ‘NME’ and one from ‘Q’. It is clear that both of these magazines have a similar layout; it is done in columns which are relatively thin. This is done in order to make reading easier. The colour scheme has been kept the same as the cover, red, white and black, in both. All of the titles and heading are in block capitals to separate them from the body text. And as all of the body text is the same size the titles and heading are in a bigger font. The masthead is repeated from the cover just in a smaller scale, this is done party because of the identity of the magazine and it will increase in awareness of the image to existing readers. The pictures in the contents are usually a shot of the feature article, but it will be a different, usually more personal, shot than that of the cover. Equally, there are normally thumbnails of the smaller articles, as featured on the ‘reviews’ section of Q. The sections that are included give an indication to the nature of the magazine in this issue. The page is very informative, it lists all of the interviews and features in the magazine, and each section has its own page number. In NME, the bands are in alphabetical order to make it easier for the reader to find the band they are looking for. Both magazines have the dates in the top right hand corner as it does on the cover.
