1.In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

NME Magazine
This NME feature is just like the one I used with the text inside just tilting to the left. I think by using this feature something you want to get across to your audience can stand out more. My magazine does not challenge normal conventions as NME uses its features to gain money.2.How does your media product represent particular social groups?

3.What kind of media instituton might distribute your media product and why?

Key Facts About NME:

Launch Date- 1952

Psychographics
Market research tries to divide people into 'types' in a wide range of ways. A typical set of catergorisations is as follows:
Mainstreamers- They go with the flow and don't want to stand out.
Aspirers- They want to have more money or status and will often buy 'flashy' products to try send out messages about status.
Succeeders- They have more money to spend than aspirers but won't feel the need to show it as much.
Individualists- They want to show the world they are different.
Carers- They want to save the world.
Audience Demographics
Magazine companies, like all media producers, need to know who they are targeting. They need this information for two reasons:
- To make sure their product is attractive to their buyers.
- To provide accurate data about their buyers to potential advertisers.
Demographics means categorising people by quantifiable things like age, gender, class, race etc. If we take class as an example, we can see some of the problems with demographics, which have led to media producers taking different approaches to audience classification. Demographics are still central to audience research by media producers, but they are now frequently augmented by more subtle approaches.

4.Who would be the audience for your media product?

This is the kind of audience that I want to attract with my magazine.
Taste-They should have taste in indie music and enjoy going to live gigs and finding out about popstars lives.
Shopping- They should shop at places such as; Topshop, Topman, Bank, H&M, Miss Selfridge, Henleys, Urban Outfitters etc.
Favourite TV Programmes- They should watch programmes such as X factor, most music channels, Family Guy, The Simpsons etc.
Music- Anything from The Clash to Kasabian. Any music that can grab someones attention and sound amazing at live gigs.
My readers should think this about my magazine;
-Talks to me in my language.
-Is the authority in its market.
-Has stuff I talk about with my friend.
-Makes me feel more knowledgeable.
-Like to be seen with this magazine.
-Believe what I read in this magazine.
5. How did you attract/address your audience?
I set my magazine style in the style of NME because I think the person in the images always has a lot of attitude and stands out aswell as the text on it. I wanted to attract my audience both boys and girls to my magazine so by having a boy as my front image, both girls and boys will want to pick it up and he may look appealing and interesting.
Sean's strong jaw line defines his face really well and i think this make him more attractive to a female audience. I also think the attitude and style he has would attract males as they might look upto him. The glasses and the reflection from them make his face light up and draws the audiences attention. His facial expression is full of a 'swagga' attitude which i think is popular amongst most music pop stars today.
I think that my title for my image stands out reallywell because it is postistion diagonally over the image
and its edgy look makes the audience attracted to it.
You can clearly see that the text belongs to the image.
These are bands that readers of my magazine should listen to and by putting this box on the front page would attract the readers to my magazine.
6.What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?
These are the programmes i used to complete my magazine. I used photoshop to edit my images and create my front cover, contents and double page spread. I used publisher to create my single page spread and for saving my evidence with. Blogger i used to record everything that i have done with my magazine and frequently visited the site updating it. Dafont i used for my text for my magazine as the text is more effective and makes my magazine stand out more to the reader.
I used photoshop to edit my front cover image. I first enlarged the image so that Sean was more central and his upper body was on the cover more. Then i made the whole image black and white but decided that it looked too plain. So i changed the contract and colour balance so his face was brighter and the shine from the glasses became really effective. Then i wanted his jacket to be in colour so i selected it all and copied the layer so the coat would be the colour layer and the rest black and white.
7.Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?
From doing the preliminary task i think i have learnt so many things and progressed through to my final product. Before the preliminary task i had never used photoshop before and you can clearly see this in my first attempt. I learnt that facial expression and body language are very important in photographs and the models need to have attitude to draw attention to the reader. Also the colours and fonts you use on your magazine have to be very appropriate and go well together, unlike my first photo where the text does not match the image at all. The positioning of the text is also very important as i learned by changing the positions to see which looked best and not to cover up the image.
Making of double page.

This is my final double page spread. I added text to my photo to show what the story was about and to make the readers want to know about the story when they see this page.

I then thought that the picture would look better in black and white but still wanted the guitar in colour so that Sean would stand out from the background. I think this makes the magazine look more interesting and attractive.

This is the picture I chose for my double page spread because it gives me a lot of room on the left for text and I think his body language and positioning is good for my magazine.
Questionnaire Feedback

Also from my feedback I found out that many people liked indie music the most. So by still using the NME style I decided not to do a rock style magazine but mke it more indie for my readers.Monday, 13 December 2010
Contents page
Final
I needed a band photo for my contents page but I thought that the image looked to square and plain on the middle of the page so I played around with the editing tools and found that by putting an outward shadow on the photo made it stand out a lot more and made the page look more effective as a whole.
This is the image I originally chose for my front cover but I changed my mind but I still thought that this image was too good to waste so I put it on my contents page to relate to the story of him and keep the readers informed.
I added this advertisment to my contents page because it's something that attracts people into buying the magazine again if little offers are included in it. Also I think that it makes the magazine look more presentable.

Front cover
I think that by changin the position of the title made it look so much better and then i worked around the image using text and images to make my cover stand out. This is my final copy my front cover. I like how the 'Sean Smyth' text is positioned diagonally across the image but it does not take your attention from the picture as his face and body language is very strong.
