Evaluation Question Four

WHO WOULD BE THE AUDIENCE FOR YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT?

this is my freind, Ross. everyone say hello to Ross! he's going to be my inspiration for my target audience, as i feel people like Ross would buy my magazine as they enjoy listening to the bands my magazine would include.

he looks like kurt cobain too.. from nirvana.. which would big a big band included in my magazine.
although i've chosen a boy, i think many girls, perhaps more girls than boys would buy my magazine, as they would have pretty much the same similar taste in music, television and fashion items.. except would shop in different gender sections.
he enjoys going to gigs, his favourite bands are nivarna, crystal castles, the beastie boys, the drums, two door cinema club, the black lips, kasabian, ect.

he likes shopping in places like american apparel, lost art, h&m, river island, topman, addias, nike and so on..

ROSS LOVES RUGRATS! and other childish films that are easy to watch, yet funny, he also likes watching the inbetweeners, skins, pokemon, family guy and misfits.. this doesn't reflect his music choice however, or his fashion choice, as they're cartoons and wear nappies.. but the cast list seen in such programmes like misfits and skins might reflect his fashion choice more, as he'd be wearing similar things to them.

However, Ross also enjoys skating in Liverpool and learning new tricks.. having a good time. he likes going to festivals, parties and going out with his freinds, and isn't to fussed on what the new trend is in or who america's next top model is, he's just a boy that will turn up his loudest music at family meal times to drown the awkward conversation out, and listens to music to make him feel good.
i think using someone like Ross would be suitable, as it's a music magazine aimed at real bands, not just the 'hip/trendy' music in, and not all about who looks good on stage, but actually about who can sing well and who is amazing at guitar, bands that Ross likes.

I've also been looking at something known as Project Phoenix.
I found out that it's the Bauer Media's way of looking at the music industry.. they interviewed 1800 people ages between 16-45 too see how the music industry consumer market is shifting, and for what people rely on music for these days.
the main findings were..

Music is Still the UK’s Key Passion and is Bigger Than Ever

  • More people are interested in music than any other passion/interest (e.g. films, shopping, sport, fashion etc)
  • People are listening to more music than ever before

The UK’s Connection With Music is Evolving

  • The mainstream even have an active approach to seeking out music
  • Everybody now takes a pick and mix approach to music

Live is Where the Energy is at

  • No evidence of decline in people’s attachment to live music
  • In paradox to the decline in the album/single/video, live is the heartbeat to the music fan’s life

Brands are Welcome

  • Consumers accept the involvement of brands in the music space
  • People recognise the music industry needs new sources of revenue
  • Broadly brands have succeeded with music event sponsorship

they have also categorised music listeners into 4 main groups too.. these being;

Background Listeners (39% of the 16-45 population)

background listeners aren't as fussed and passionate about their music as others, while they enjoy listening to it on an ipod or radio, it's not there main focus of the day. they listen to odd songs rather than the important album, and will listen to anything really. it's found that background listeners are more likely to be female, and if they attend a gig/concert, it's very rare.

The Headliners (20% of the 16-45 population)

Headliners like music, but are no more passionate about it than the average person of their age group, they listen to the chart hits or what's new/hot at the moment, the big name artists or whose currently in the limelight. they're more likely to be male and are happy to buy products or brands promoted by their favourite artist.

Track Hunters (24% of the 16-45 population)

They like discovering new bands, but may not necessarily be the first to hear about the new artist or album, they think the albums are as important as the songs, and are more interested in the artists’ music than their lifestyle, and would rather go to see the band live if they hear good reviews.

Pace-setters (17% of the 16-45 population)

Pacesetters see themselves as being interested in different things to the mainstream and as having a true passion for music, they would goosesip and talk to friends about music a lot, maybe even argue about bands.

it‘s fairly diverse but not all members are that extreme – what they all have in common though is a deep rooted passion for music..
