Q Magazine Analysis

This is a copy of ‘Q’ with Bruce Springsteen on the cover. He is an iconic figure in rock music and is represented in a cool and simple way. There aren’t any props or costumes that make him seem eccentric, it highlights the fact that it is all about the music and this will appeal to the readers.

He is stood with his guitar and is the sole focus of the cover, his presence of a magazine will appeal to real music lovers.

The cover artist is representative of white, adult males which is synonymous of a large proportion of the readership as ‘The target audience for Q magazine are people in their 30’s and 40’s... it seems that Q magazine doesn’t appeal to many women of that age.’

The layout is very simplistic and split into thirds, in the left third is the masthead and a preview of a BLUR interview and the right third is just a list of bands and a small competition banner and the middle is Bruce Springsteen alone.

The masthead itself is very simplistic and bold. It is quite big so it will be attractive to potential customers on a shelf and will stand out. Also, the ‘Q’ colour scheme of red, white and black is continued throughout.

Another thing to note is that the artists are all looking directly at the camera. This is done in order to engage the audience further.
